Stepping Into The Technology Gap
Why is intellectual distribution (educating consumers about products and services they don't yet know about) where so many of the Next Millionaires will come from? Why is it such a huge opportunity? Because that is precisely where the biggest bottleneck is today.
No matter what the industry, the pace of technological change has so rapidly accelerated that today, by the time you learn about a product and are ready to buy it, there's already a better one out there somewhere. Why aren't you and all the other consumers buying this newer model? Because you don't know about it yet. This is what manufacturer's call "backlog".
Twenty-five years ago, it was a shock when a clerk in a store couldn't answer your questions. Today, it's normal. Nobody expects the clerk to know much about the product: now that's the consumer's job. There are a few specialty retailers left, where clerks fulfill that traditional role of educating the customer. But in general, the retailers have completely abandoned the traditional function of teaching people about products. Instead, they have focused on the function of efficiently and inexpensively delivering the product.
Go into a showroom and talk to a car salesperson: does that salesperson actually own the car you're talking about? Not likely. Go into an electronics outlet: how often will you meet a salesperson who actually owns the particular product you're considering - or who can even afford to? Seldom. These people are in the business of showing you where to find it on the shelf; they're not there to teach you what it is.
So, where do we learn today? Nowhere. That's the problem - and that's the opportunity. Because that's the technology gap.
Remember the sixth and final law of economic alchemy? "Your immediate economic potential is defined by the technology gap." This is it. Today, because technology is advancing so rapidly and making so many new products that can dramatically improve the quality of people's lives, the gap between what people are using and what they could be using if they only knew about it is huge and growing huger even as you read these words.
And if you are the one who tells them about that technology, you stand to make a fortune.
